They're Family, Too: Why Pet Photography Matters More Than You Think

There's something about our pets, isn't there?

The muddy paws, the ridiculous sleeping positions, the way they somehow manage to take up an entire couch despite being a fraction of our size. They weave themselves into our everyday lives so naturally that it's hard to imagine a time when they weren't there.

And yet, they're usually the ones missing from our family photos.

The Little Things Are the Big Things

When we think about getting professional photos taken, we usually picture families, couples, babies, and milestones. But what about the four-legged family members who are there for so much of it?

The dog who follows your toddler around hoping for dropped snacks. The cat who insists on being involved in absolutely everything. The senior pup whose muzzle is getting a little greyer every year.

These are the little details that make up a life together. And they're worth remembering.

They Don't Have to Sit Pretty

Here's the thing about pet photography: your pet doesn't need to be perfectly behaved.

In fact, I'd almost prefer they weren't.

I love the messy, silly, completely unscripted moments. The enthusiastic tail wags, the slobbery kisses, the dog who decides halfway through a photo that there's something much more interesting happening in a nearby bush.

That's personality. That's *them*.

My approach to photography has always been about capturing genuine connection rather than forcing everything into a perfect pose. And honestly? Pets are pretty fantastic at keeping things real.

Whether we're exploring somewhere outdoors in Campbell River or hanging out in the comfort of your home, the goal isn't perfection. It's capturing your pet exactly as you know and love them.

Because We Never Get Enough Time

This is the part that's a little harder to talk about.

Our pets are only with us for a chapter of our lives, but to them, we're their whole story.

One day, the muddy paw prints won't be on the floor anymore. The familiar sound of their nails clicking down the hallway will be gone. And those ordinary little moments we barely thought twice about? They'll mean everything.

That's why I believe pet photography matters.

Not because every dog needs a fancy portrait or every cat needs to cooperate for the camera (good luck with that one), but because the love we share with our animals deserves to be remembered, too.

And while our phones are probably full of approximately 4,000 blurry pictures of them sleeping, there's something special about having beautiful, intentional photographs of them — especially photographs of **you together**.

Because you deserve to be in those memories, too.

Let's Tell Their Story

Whether you've got a rambunctious puppy, a dignified old soul, or a cat with a personality roughly three times its body weight, I'd love to capture a little piece of your life together.

No stiff posing. No expectation of perfect behaviour. Just you, your pet, and all the wonderful chaos that comes with loving them.

Because they're not *just pets*.

They're family.
